1. Basic Parts of a Circle

  • A circle is formed by a point moving at a constant distance from a fixed point.
  • The fixed point inside the circle is called the centre.
  • The fixed distance from the centre is called the radius.

2. Position of Points: Interior, On the Circle, and Exterior

  • A point lies on the circumference if its distance from the centre is equal to the radius.
  • A point lies in the interior of the circle if its distance from the centre is less than the radius.
  • A point lies in the exterior of the circle if its distance from the centre is greater than the radius.

3. Arcs, Semicircle, Major Arc, and Minor Arc

  • A part of the circumference of a circle is called an arc.
  • A diameter divides the circumference into two equal arcs.
  • Each of the two equal arcs is called a semicircle.

4. Sector and Segment

  • A sector is the part of a circle bounded by two radii and an arc.
  • A minor sector is bounded by two radii and a minor arc.
  • A major sector is bounded by two radii and a major arc.
