- In active voice, the subject performs the action.
- In passive voice, the subject receives the action.
- The object in active voice becomes the subject in passive voice.
How Active Voice Changes into Passive Voice
- The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence.
- The original subject may be added after 'by'.
- If there are two objects, either object can become the subject in passive voice.
Verb Type and Passive Voice
- Only transitive verbs can have a passive form.
- Intransitive verbs do not take an object, so they cannot be passivized.
- Kartik played the guitar can be changed into passive voice because the verb is transitive.
Tense Changes in Active and Passive Voice
- Simple present: Rachita feeds the stray animals. → The stray animals are fed by Rachita.
- Present continuous: Rachita is feeding the stray animals. → The stray animals are being fed by Rachita.
- Present perfect: Rachita has fed the stray animals. → The stray animals have been fed by Rachita.
