  • In active voice, the subject performs the action.
  • In passive voice, the subject receives the action.
  • The object in active voice becomes the subject in passive voice.

How Active Voice Changes into Passive Voice

  • The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence.
  • The original subject may be added after 'by'.
  • If there are two objects, either object can become the subject in passive voice.

Verb Type and Passive Voice

  • Only transitive verbs can have a passive form.
  • Intransitive verbs do not take an object, so they cannot be passivized.
  • Kartik played the guitar can be changed into passive voice because the verb is transitive.

Tense Changes in Active and Passive Voice

  • Simple present: Rachita feeds the stray animals. → The stray animals are fed by Rachita.
  • Present continuous: Rachita is feeding the stray animals. → The stray animals are being fed by Rachita.
  • Present perfect: Rachita has fed the stray animals. → The stray animals have been fed by Rachita.
