What to Focus On

  • A triangle has three sides and three vertices.
  • Triangle ABC is the usual naming pattern for a triangle.
  • Greater side and greater opposite angle go together.
  • Different sides give different angles.
  • Different angles give different sides.
  • Greater side means greater opposite angle.
  • A median joins a vertex to the midpoint of the opposite side.
  • Three medians meet at the centroid.
  • The centroid divides each median in the ratio 2:1.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Two triangles are congruent if they have two equal angles and any one equal side.

In SAS, any equal angle is enough, even if it is not the included angle.

In ASA, any equal side between the triangles can be used, even if it is not the included side.
