4. Laws and institutions for environmental protection

  • The Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 prohibits the use of reserved forest land for other purposes.
  • Permission of the central government is compulsory for mining activities on forest-reserved land.
  • A person disobeying the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 is entitled to imprisonment for 15 days.
