  • In right triangle ABC right-angled at B, AC is the hypotenuse.
  • For angle A = theta, BC is the side opposite to angle A and AB is the side adjacent to angle A.
  • The six trigonometric ratios are sin theta, cos theta, tan theta, cosec theta, sec theta, and cot theta.

2. Finding Ratios from Given Sides

  • When two sides of a right triangle are known, use Pythagoras Theorem to find the third side first.
  • After finding the third side, substitute the values into the trigonometric ratio formulas.
  • This method is used in many direct question types.

3. Relations Among Trigonometric Ratios and Standard Values

  • tan theta equals sin theta divided by cos theta.
  • cot theta equals cos theta divided by sin theta and also 1/tan theta.
  • sec theta equals 1/cos theta.
