Rise and Key Rulers of the Kakatiya Dynasty

  • The Kakatiyas originated as subordinates of the Rashtrakutas and later served under the Chalukyas of Kalyani.
  • They derived their name from the goddess Kakati, after whom the dynasty was named.
  • Beta-I (995–1052 CE) was the first ruler to establish Kakatiya authority in Hanumakonda with the help of his aunt Miriyala Kamasani.

  • Initially, Jainism was followed, but Shaivism became dominant during the Kakatiya period.
  • Pasupata Shaivism spread widely under Golakimata devotees during Ganapatideva’s time.
