Rise and Key Rulers of the Kakatiya Dynasty
- The Kakatiyas originated as subordinates of the Rashtrakutas and later served under the Chalukyas of Kalyani.
- They derived their name from the goddess Kakati, after whom the dynasty was named.
- Beta-I (995–1052 CE) was the first ruler to establish Kakatiya authority in Hanumakonda with the help of his aunt Miriyala Kamasani.

Administration and Governance
- The king was the supreme authority assisted by a council of ministers and Ashtadasha Tirthas (eighteen sacred officials).
- The kingdom was divided into administrative units: Nadus → Sthalas → Villages.
- Each village had 12 Ayyagars (village elders) responsible for local governance.

Religion, Literature, and Culture
- Initially, Jainism was followed, but Shaivism became dominant during the Kakatiya period.
- Pasupata Shaivism spread widely under Golakimata devotees during Ganapatideva’s time.
- There were religious tensions between Shaivites and Vaishnavites, leading poet Tikkanna to dedicate his Mahabharata to Hariharanatha (a combined form).

Art, Architecture, and Irrigation
- The Kakatiyas were pioneers in temple architecture and large-scale irrigation projects.
- The Orugallu (Warangal) Fort had three defensive walls and 77 bastions.
- Famous temples include the Thousand Pillared Temple, Ramappa Temple, and Mahadeva Temple in Bainsa.
