Card 1Classification of mixtures

What is a homogeneous mixture?

Answer

A homogeneous mixture has a uniform composition throughout. A solution is a homogeneous mixture. Example: sugar and water.

Card 2

Answer

Card 3

Answer

Card 4Classification of mixtures

What is a heterogeneous mixture?

Answer

A heterogeneous mixture is not uniform throughout. Its components can often be seen separately or settle on standing. Example: sand and water.

Card 5Solutions

Why is a stirred mixture of sugar and water called a solution?

Answer

Because sugar dissolves in water and the mixture remains uniform throughout. A solution always remains homogeneous.

Card 6

Answer

Card 7

Answer

Card 8Solutions

What are solute and solvent?

Answer

The solute is the substance that gets dissolved, and the solvent is the substance that dissolves the solute. In sugar water, sugar is the solute and water is the solvent.
