  • X'OX and YOY' are mutually perpendicular lines dividing the plane into four quadrants.
  • X-axis and Y-axis together are called co-ordinate axes.
  • OA is abscissa and AP is ordinate of a point P.

  • Reflection means image formation on the other side of a mirror line.
  • Distance of object from mirror equals distance of image from mirror.
  • The mirror line is perpendicular to the line joining object and image.

  • A point is invariant if and only if it lies on the line of reflection.
  • Invariant points remain unchanged after reflection.
  • A point on the mirror line is its own image.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Reflection in the origin means only one coordinate changes sign.

Reflection in the X-axis changes the x-coordinate and keeps the y-coordinate the same.

Reflection in the Y-axis changes the y-coordinate and keeps the x-coordinate the same.
