3. Major Map Series Published by Survey of India

  • Southern Asia Series is drawn on a scale of 1:2,000,000 and covers 8 degrees latitude and 12 degrees longitude.
  • India and Adjacent Countries Series is drawn on a scale of 1:1,000,000 and covers 4 degrees north to 40 degrees north and 44 degrees east to 104 degrees east.
  • India and Adjacent Countries Series has 106 maps numbered 1 to 106.

4. Nomenclature and Numbering of Topographical Sheets

  • Topographical sheets are based on the India and Adjacent Countries Series of 1:1,000,000.
  • Quarter Inch or Degree Sheet is 1:250,000 and has an extent of 1 degree latitude by 1 degree longitude.
  • A degree sheet is divided into 16 parts labelled A to P.
