What to Focus On

  • Arrange numbers vertically by place value.
  • Start adding from the ones column.
  • Carry over extra digits to the next column when needed.
  • Place larger number on top.
  • Start from the ones column.
  • Borrow when the top digit is smaller than the bottom digit.
  • Multiply each digit of the multiplier with the entire multiplicand.
  • Shift each new row one place to the left (add zeros).
  • Add all partial products at the end.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

When adding large numbers, I can add digits from left to right because it feels faster.

In subtraction, if the top digit is smaller, I can just swap and subtract normally without borrowing.

When multiplying a large number by 100, I just add two zeroes at the end, no matter what.
