1. Data, Raw Data, Array, and Types of Data

  • Statistics deals with the collection, presentation, analysis, and interpretation of numerical information.
  • Data is a collection of numerical figures giving specific information.
  • Each numerical figure in data is called an observation.

2. Tabulation and Frequency Distribution

  • Arranging data in a systematic form, in the form of a table, is called tabulation of data.
  • Tabulation uses three columns: marks or values, tally marks, and number of students or frequency.
  • The number of times an observation occurs in the given data is called its frequency.

3. Range

  • Range is the difference between the largest number and the smallest number in a set of numbers.
  • Range helps compare how spread out the data is.
  • To find range, identify the largest value and the smallest value first.

4. Mean

  • Mean is the value equally shared out among all the observations.
  • Mean is found by dividing the sum of all observations by the number of observations.
  • Mean is not necessarily one of the given observations.
