1. Basic Parts of a Triangle

  • A triangle has three non-collinear points, three sides, three angles, and three vertices.
  • The six parts or elements of a triangle are its three sides and three angles.
  • In triangle ABC, vertex A is opposite side BC, B is opposite AC, and C is opposite AB.

2. Angles in a Triangle

  • The sum of interior angles of a triangle is always 180°.
  • Interior angles are the angles that lie inside the triangle.
  • An exterior angle is formed when a side of the triangle is produced.

3. Classification of Triangles

  • Triangles can be classified by angles and by sides.
  • By angles: acute angled, right angled, and obtuse angled triangles.
  • By sides: scalene, isosceles, and equilateral triangles.

4. Isosceles and Equilateral Triangle Properties

  • In an isosceles triangle, the angle between the equal sides is called the vertical angle or angle of vertex.
  • The third side, which is unequal, is called the base.
  • The two angles opposite the equal sides are called base angles.
