- Safe drinking water has no taste, smell, colour, dirt, or germs.
- Polluted water may be coloured, may have suspended particles, a foul smell, and a bad taste.
- Domestic wastes, industrial wastes, agricultural wastes, and oil spills are sources of water pollution.

Soil Pollution and Waste Disposal
- Soil pollution is a change in the physical, chemical, and biological nature of soil harmful to humans and other living beings.
- Some chemicals can make soil totally infertile.
- Excess insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizers can enter plants, fruits, and vegetables and then reach the human digestive system, causing sickness.
