What to Focus On
- Distance formula is used to find the length of a segment between two points.
- Midpoint divides a segment into two equal parts.
- Section formula finds an internal division point in a given ratio.
- Inclination is measured anticlockwise from the positive x-axis.
- Slope means tan of inclination, except for a vertical line.
- Slope of x-axis is 0 and slope of y-axis is undefined.
- The angle formula gives the acute angle only.
- If 1 + m1m2 = 0, the lines are perpendicular.
- The obtuse angle is found by subtracting the acute angle from 180°.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
The slope of every vertical line is zero.
The formula m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) works even when the line is vertical.
Two non-vertical lines are perpendicular only when their slopes are equal and opposite.
Memory Tips
Slope as tan of inclination
Inclination range and special angles
Slope of x-axis and y-axis
