  • An eye figure is symmetrical only when the upper and lower arcs have equal radius.
  • For symmetry in the eye figure, AX = AY = BX = BY.
  • The points A and B lie on the perpendicular bisector of XY because they are equidistant from X and Y.

Perpendicular Bisector and Right Angle Construction

  • Draw equal-radius arcs from X and Y above and below XY to locate A and B.
  • Join A and B to get the perpendicular bisector of XY.
  • A point equidistant from X and Y lies on the perpendicular bisector of XY.

Angle Bisection, Angle Copying, and Parallel Lines

  • Angle bisection works by choosing A and B so that OA = OB.
  • Then equal-radius arcs from A and B meet at C.
  • The line OC bisects angle AOB.

Trefoil Arch, Pointed Arch, and Regular Hexagon

  • A symmetric trefoil or arch design needs equal side lengths on the support lines and equal base angles.
  • For symmetry, AB = CD and ∠BAD = ∠CDA.
  • A pointed arch can be made from two equal line segments whose midpoints are used as supports.
