  • The difference of two numbers means the first number minus the second number.
  • If the sum is 25 and the difference is 11, the numbers are 18 and 7 because 18 + 7 = 25 and 18 - 7 = 11.
  • If the sum is 25 and the difference is -11, the numbers are 7 and 18 because 7 + 18 = 25 and 7 - 18 = -11.

2. Addition of Integers on a Number Line

  • A carrom coin moving rightward represents a positive integer.
  • A carrom coin moving leftward represents a negative integer.
  • The final position after two strikes is found by adding the two movements.

3. Subtraction of Integers and Additive Inverse

  • Subtracting a number is the same as adding its additive inverse.
  • The additive inverse of 18 is -18, and the additive inverse of -18 is 18.
  • 7 - 18 = -11 using tokens with zero pairs.

  • 4 × (-2) = -8 by placing 2 negative tokens into an empty bag 4 times.
