4.1 Emotion: Meaning and Explanation
- The word 'emotion' comes from the Latin word 'emovere' meaning 'to agitate', 'to excite' or 'to stir up'.
- Woodworth defined emotion as a 'moved or stirred up state of an organism'.
- McDougall linked all emotions to primary instincts, stating that instincts are integral parts of emotions and behaviours.
