  • Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.
  • A healthy person is generally more efficient at work, and good health supports productivity and economic prosperity.
  • Good health depends on balanced diet, personal hygiene, regular exercise, yoga, safe water, clean food, disease awareness, vaccination, waste disposal, and vector control.

2. Communicable Diseases and Pathogens

  • Communicable diseases are caused by pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, protozoa, helminths, and fungi.
  • Infection begins when harmful organisms enter the body and multiply.
  • Incubation period is the time between entry of the organism and appearance of symptoms.

3. Bacterial Diseases

  • Typhoid is caused by Salmonella typhi and affects the intestines.
  • Typhoid fever persists for 1 to 8 weeks, and relapse may occur after apparent recovery.
  • Widal test confirms typhoid fever.

4. Viral Diseases

  • Common cold is a highly contagious viral infection of the upper respiratory tract.
  • Dengue fever is also called break-bone fever and is caused by dengue virus or Flavi virus.
  • Dengue is transmitted primarily by female Aedes mosquitoes, especially Aedes aegypti, which bite during the day.
