Formulas
Composition of Nucleus
A = Number of protons + Number of neutrons
N = A - Z
Charge on up quark = +2/3 e; charge on down quark = -1/3 e
Size, Shape, and Density of Nucleus
R = R0 A^(1/3)
R = 1.2 A^(1/3) F
(4/3) π R^3 ∝ A or R ∝ A^(1/3)
M = mA
ρ = M/V = mA / [(4/3)π R0^3 A] = 3m / (4π R0^3)
Atomic Mass Unit and Masses
1 u = (1/12)(mass of one 6C12 atom) = (1/12)(12/N gram) = 1/N gram
ΔE = (Δm) c^2
1 u × c^2 = 931.5 MeV
