1

1. Statistics and Data

  • Statistics has two meanings.
  • In the singular sense, it is the branch of knowledge used in collecting, analysing, presenting, and interpreting numerical information.
  • In the plural sense, it means the collection of numerical data in a systematic manner with some definite object in view.
2

2. Frequency, Raw Data, Arrayed Data, and Frequency Distribution

  • Frequency tells how many times a number appears in a set of data.
  • Raw data is data recorded in its original form.
  • Arrayed data is raw data arranged in ascending or descending order.
3

3. Frequency Tables: Ungrouped and Grouped

  • An ungrouped frequency distribution lists each separate value and its frequency.
  • A grouped frequency distribution uses class intervals to group data into ranges.
  • Class intervals such as 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50, and 50-60 are used for grouped data.
4

4. Bar Graphs

  • A bar graph is the simplest and most widely used graphical representation of numerical data.
  • All bars are of the same width.
  • The width of the bars does not represent anything.
