  • Percent means for every hundred and is written as % or p.c.
  • A percentage is a fraction whose denominator is 100.
  • The numerator of a percentage is called the rate percent.

  • Direct method finds percent directly using part ÷ whole × 100%.
  • Alternative method often sets x% of a value equal to the given part.
  • The same problem can often be solved in more than one valid way.

  • If a number is decreased by x%, the new number equals (100 - x)/100 of the original.

  • Depreciation is calculated on the value at the beginning of each year.
  • For the first year, subtract the depreciation from the present value.
