The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was established by the Government of India in 1988, but it started functioning in 1995. NHAI is responsible for the construction and maintenance of National Highways across the country. The seven-year gap between establishment and functioning was due to the time needed for setting up the organizational structure and legal framework. The other years are incorrect - 1985 is too early, 1990 is between establishment and functioning, and 1995 is when it started functioning, not when it was established.

Chennai

Chennai is the oldest port in India. It has an artificial harbor and is located in Tamil Nadu. The port has been operating for centuries and played a crucial role in India's maritime trade history. Mumbai is known as the Gateway of India, Kolkata is called the Tea port of India, and Kochi is an important port in Kerala, but Chennai specifically holds the distinction of being the oldest port in the country.

5846 km

The Golden Quadrilateral highway project has a length of 5,846 km. It connects the major metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata through 4/6 lane national highways. The 7,300 km refers to the corridor highways (North-South and East-West), 13,150 km is the total average length of the entire National Highway Development Project, and 3,745 km is the length of NH-44, not the Golden Quadrilateral.

New Delhi

Indira Gandhi International Airport is located in New Delhi. It is named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and serves as the capital's main international airport. Mumbai has Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Kolkata has Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, and Chennai has Chennai International Airport. Each major city has its own distinctly named international airport.
