  • Like terms are terms having the same variables and the same exponents of the variables.
  • Unlike terms are terms that are not like terms.
  • Arithmetical numbers are like terms because 3 = 3x^0 and -5 = -5x^0.

4. Evaluation and Zero of a Polynomial

  • To evaluate a polynomial, substitute the given value for the variable and simplify.
  • x = 1 is a zero of 5x^3 + 3x^2 - 4x - 4 because substitution gives 0.
  • x = -1 is not a zero of x^3 + 3x^2 + 3x + 2 because the value is 1, not 0.
