  • समस्तरूपेण वा संक्षिप्तरूपेण लेखनं समासः कथ्यते।
  • समासः भाषा-संक्षेपाय, अर्थ-स्पष्टीकरणाय च उपयुज्यते।

अव्ययीभावसमासः

  • अव्ययीभावसमासः पूर्वपदप्रधानः भवति।
  • अस्य समासस्य सर्वेषु पदेषु प्रथमपदं अव्ययम् अथवा उपसर्गः भवति।
  • अव्ययीभावसमासः सर्वदा नपुंसकलिङ्गे भवति।

तत्पुरुषसमासः

  • यस्मिन् समासे प्रथमपदे द्वितीया-से सप्तमी-पर्यन्तं विभक्तयः प्रयुज्यन्ते, सः तत्पुरुषः।
  • तत्पुरुषसमासे क्रियायाः प्रयोगः द्वितीय/उत्तरपदस्य अनुसारं भवति।
  • अस्य उपभेदेषु कर्मधारयः, द्विगुः, नञ्-तत्पुरुषः इत्यादयः सन्ति।

  • द्विगुसमासे प्रथमशब्दः संख्यावाचकः भवति।
  • द्विगुसमासः नपुंसकलिङ्गे वा स्त्रीलिङ्गे भवति।
  • अस्य रूपेषु समूहः अथवा समाहारः बोध्यते।
