The Book that Saved the Earth

The twentieth century was called the ‘Era of the Book’ because books were very common then and covered everything from ant eaters to Zulus. They taught, educated, illustrated, punctuated, and even decorated people’s lives. In short, books played a very important role in spreading knowledge in that age.

The people who tried to invade the earth were the Martians from Mars, led by Great and Mighty Think-Tank. So the correct answer is Martians.

Think-Tank makes several wrong guesses about the books found on Earth. First, he thinks the books are sandwiches and says Earthlings use them as food. Then he says they are communication sandwiches and asks the crew to listen to them. Later, when he sees the nursery rhymes, he thinks the book contains a code. He believes the pictures and words show that Earthlings have developed advanced knowledge: he imagines they can combine agriculture and mining, make rare metals, create high explosives, teach animals musical culture, and even launch an interplanetary attack. Finally, he sees Humpty Dumpty’s picture and thinks Earthlings are planning to capture Mars Central Control and attack Mars.

Noodle corrects Think-Tank very politely and never says directly that he is wrong. He uses phrases like “an insignificant bit of data” and “a cloudy piece of information” so that the correction sounds humble and respectful. He lets Think-Tank feel that the idea is still his own, and even when he points out the mistake, he does it as if he is only helping Think-Tank clarify his thoughts. In this way, he avoids offending him while still setting him right.

If I were in Noodle’s place, I would also correct Think-Tank politely and carefully. I would not contradict him sharply or make him feel foolish. Instead, I would give gentle hints, ask respectful questions, and try to guide him toward the correct idea without hurting his pride. This would help avoid an argument and make him accept the correction more easily.
