3. Consumer Redressal System and Consumer Protection Laws
- The consumer redressal system includes laws to protect consumers and institutions to enforce those laws.
- Consumer Protection Act 1986 is the most important legislation for protecting consumer interest in India.
- The CPA was enacted to provide cheap, simple, and quick justice.
4. Consumer Councils and Consumer Courts
- There are two types of institutions dealing with consumer grievances: Government Councils and Consumer Courts.
- The Central Consumer Protection Council is at the national level and is headed by a Central Minister in-charge of Consumer Affairs in New Delhi.
- The State Consumer Protection Council is at the state level and is headed by a State Minister in-charge of Consumer Affairs.
