1. Meaning of Demand

  • Demand has three essential components: price, quantity, and time period.
  • Time period in demand can be week, month, year, or any other suitable period.
  • Demand is different from mere desire because payment of price must actually happen.

2. Individual Demand and Its Determinants

  • Individual demand is the quantity of a commodity that an individual buyer is willing to buy at given price per unit of time.
  • The individual demand schedule shows different quantities demanded at different prices by one buyer.
  • Varsha's demand for mangoes changes as price changes.

3. Law of Demand and Demand Curve

  • The law of demand states that if price of a commodity falls, its quantity demanded increases, and if price rises, its quantity demanded falls, other things remaining constant.
  • The law of demand assumes that factors other than price remain unchanged.
  • The law of demand implies an inverse relationship between price and quantity demanded.

4. Market Demand and Its Determinants

  • Market demand is the total quantity of a commodity demanded by all individual buyers in the market at the given price at given time.
  • Market demand is the sum of individual demands.
