1. Meaning of Goods and Services

  • Both goods and services satisfy human wants.
  • Goods are tangible in nature; they can be seen and touched.
  • Services are non-tangible in nature; they can neither be seen nor be touched.

2. Types of Goods and Services

  • Free goods are available in abundance, with supply much more than demand.
  • Economic goods are scarce, command a price, and can be bought in the market.
  • Free services are rendered out of love and affection and cannot be bought in the market.

3. Single Use and Durable Use Goods

  • All goods, whether consumer or producer goods, are further classified into single use and durable use goods.
  • Single use goods are used only once and are finished in one use.
  • Durable use goods can be used again and again for a long period of time.

4. Private Goods and Public Goods

  • Goods can be classified on the basis of ownership into private and public goods.
  • Private goods are privately owned and exclusively enjoyed by individuals.
  • Public goods are owned and enjoyed by society as a whole.
