1. Reflection of Light

  • Reflection is the bouncing back of light after it falls on a surface.
  • A smooth shining surface that reflects most of the light is called a mirror.
  • Incident ray, reflected ray, and the normal all lie in the same plane.

  • In a plane mirror, the image is virtual, erect, and the same size as the object.

  • Refraction is the bending of light when it passes obliquely from one medium to another.
  • Light bends away from the normal when it goes from denser to rarer medium.
  • Light bends towards the normal when it goes from rarer to denser medium.
