Climate conditions only

While climate can have some impact, it is not a primary factor determining railway distribution. The main factors are terrain (flat areas like Gangetic plains have dense networks while mountainous regions have fewer lines), population density (densely populated areas need better connectivity), industrial development (mining and industrial areas require railways for goods transport), and economic viability. Climate alone doesn't determine railway network distribution.

NW-1 (River Ganga)

National Waterway-1 (NW-1) is the longest, stretching along River Ganga from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh to Haldia in West Bengal, covering 1620 km. NW-2 covers River Brahmaputra from Sadiya to Dhubri in Assam (891 km), and NW-3 covers the Kollam to Kotapuram stretch of canals in Kerala (205 km). River Godavari is suitable for navigation but is not designated as a national waterway.

Perishable goods and high-value items

Air transport is most suitable for perishable goods (fruits, vegetables, flowers) that need quick delivery, and high-value items (costly drugs, sophisticated machines, jewelry) where speed justifies the higher cost. Coal, iron ore, cement, and bulk agricultural products are heavy, bulky, and low-value goods that are better transported by railways or waterways due to cost considerations.

AIR started radio transmission in 1927 from Mumbai and Kolkata to entertain, educate, and inform people. This extensive coverage makes radio one of the most effective mass communication media in India, especially for reaching rural and remote areas where other media may not be accessible.
