  • Spoilage may cause off-flavours, bad texture, discoloration, loss of nutrients, and unsafe food.
  • Food can be spoiled by pests, insects, unsuitable temperature, too much light, oxygen, moisture, microorganisms, chemicals, and naturally present enzymes.

  • Perishable foods spoil quickly within one or two days.
  • Examples of perishable foods are milk, curds, fish, and meat.
  • Semi perishable foods can last for 1-2 weeks.
