1. Understanding Rupees and Paise

  • Indian currency is in rupees (₹) and paise (p).
  • 1 rupee = 100 paise.
  • We write money using decimals: ₹12.50 means 12 rupees and 50 paise.

2. Converting Rupees to Paise and Vice Versa

  • To convert rupees to paise: Multiply by 100.
  • To convert paise to rupees: Divide by 100 or place decimal two digits from the right.
  • Example: ₹4.75 = 475 paise; 85 paise = ₹0.85.

3. Addition and Subtraction of Money

  • Always write amounts in decimal form with rupees and paise.
  • Align decimal points when adding or subtracting.
  • Borrow and carry over just like regular decimal numbers.

4. Multiplication and Division of Money

  • Used to find total cost of multiple items or cost per unit.
  • Multiply or divide just like decimal numbers.
  • Always write the final answer with ₹ symbol and two decimal places.
