  • Elements are the objects inside a set.
  • Sets are written using capital letters and curly brackets.

  • ∈ means belongs to or is a member of.
  • ¢ means does not belong to or is not a member of.
  • Order does not matter in a set.

  • Cardinal number means number of elements.
  • It is written as n(A), n(B), and so on.
  • n(A) = 5 if a set A has 5 elements.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

The empty set is the same as {0}.

A set can contain the same element many times, so repeated letters should be written again.

The order of elements changes the set, so {a, b, c} is different from {b, c, a}.
