1. Doppler Effect in Sound

  • If the distance between the source and observer decreases, the apparent frequency increases.
  • If the distance between the source and observer increases, the apparent frequency decreases.
  • A stationary source and stationary observer give the true frequency.

  • Reflected sound from a stationary wall must be treated in two steps.
  • First, treat the wall as a stationary observer receiving sound from the moving car.

  • The full speed is not used directly.
