  • The object is placed between the lens and its focus.

  • A compound microscope produces magnification in two stages.
  • It uses two convergent lenses: objective and eyepiece.
  • The objective faces the object and has short focal length and short aperture.

  • An astronomical telescope is used to see distant heavenly objects like stars and planets.
  • It consists of an objective lens of large focal length and large aperture and an eyepiece of small focal length and small aperture.
  • The objective forms a small real inverted image at its second focus.
