1. Power of Accommodation and Visual Angle

  • A normal eye sees distant objects clearly when the eye is relaxed and the focal length of the eye lens is maximum.
  • The far point of a normal eye is infinity.
  • An object placed closer than 25 cm cannot be seen distinctly by a normal eye.

2. Simple Microscope

  • A simple microscope is a thin, short-focus convex lens with a handle.
  • It is used to observe tiny nearby objects with greater apparent size.
  • The object is placed between the lens and its focus.

3. Compound Microscope

  • A compound microscope produces magnification in two stages.
  • It uses two convergent lenses: objective and eyepiece.
  • The objective faces the object and has short focal length and short aperture.

4. Astronomical Refracting Telescope

  • An astronomical telescope is used to see distant heavenly objects like stars and planets.
  • It consists of an objective lens of large focal length and large aperture and an eyepiece of small focal length and small aperture.
  • The objective forms a small real inverted image at its second focus.
