Meaning and Importance of the Constitution

Making of the Indian Constitution

  • The Cabinet Mission arrived in India in 1946 and proposed setting up a Constituent Assembly.

  • The wide-ranging membership of the Constituent Assembly gave representation to all shades of public opinion.

  • Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru proposed the Objectives Resolution on December 13, 1946.
  • The Objectives Resolution was passed by the Constituent Assembly on January 22, 1947.
  • It declared that free India would be nothing but a republic.
