Key Topics to Revise

1

1. Construction of Quadrilaterals

  • A quadrilateral is constructed by locating its four vertices.
  • A rough sketch is always the first step.
  • For a quadrilateral with four sides and one angle given, first construct one side and the given angle, then use arcs to locate the fourth vertex.
2

2. Construction of Parallelograms

  • Opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal.
  • Diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.
  • A parallelogram with two consecutive sides and the included angle can be built by first constructing triangle ABC and then triangle ADC.
3

3. Construction of Trapezium, Rectangle, Rhombus, and Square

  • A trapezium with four sides given is constructed by first drawing the base, then a smaller triangle, and then locating the fourth vertex using arcs.
  • A rectangle has each angle 90° and opposite sides equal.
  • A rectangle with adjacent sides is constructed by first constructing triangle ABC and then triangle ADC.
4

4. Construction of a Regular Hexagon

  • Each interior angle of a regular hexagon is 120° and its opposite sides are parallel.
  • The length of the side of a regular hexagon equals the radius of its circumcircle.
  • The angle subtended by each side of a regular hexagon at the centre of its circumcircle is 60°.
