1. Concept of Congruence

  • Congruent figures have the same shape and the same size.
  • When one congruent figure is placed over another, they completely cover each other.
  • Figures with only the same shape but different sizes are similar, not congruent.

2. Congruence of Triangles and Notation

  • If two triangles are congruent, all six corresponding parts are equal.
  • The correspondence must be written in the correct vertex order.
  • For triangle congruence, it is not necessary to prove all six parts.

3. Criteria for Triangle Congruence

  • There are four criteria for triangle congruence: SAS, ASA, AAS, SSS, and RHS.
  • SAS uses two sides and the included angle.
  • ASA uses two angles and the included side.

4. Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles

  • If two sides of a triangle are equal, then the angles opposite them are equal.
  • If two angles of a triangle are equal, then the sides opposite them are equal.
  • In an equilateral triangle, all sides are equal and all angles are 60°.
