  • An equation in one variable of degree one is called a linear equation in one variable.
  • A linear equation in one variable has the general form ax + b = 0, a ≠ 0.
  • The solution or root of a linear equation is the value of the variable that satisfies the equation.

  • A linear equation in two variables has the general form ax + by + c = 0, where at least one of a or b is non-zero.
  • Each solution of a linear equation in two variables is an ordered pair (x, y).
  • A linear equation in two variables has infinitely many solutions.

  • The graph of a linear equation in two variables is always a straight line.
  • At least two solutions are needed to draw the graph.
