  • The Union Executive consists of the President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.
  • The President is the Head of State and the First citizen of the country.

2. President of India: Position and Qualifications

  • The President is the head of the State, the head of the executive and the First citizen of India.
  • The President exercises powers on the advice of the Union Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister.
  • The President must be a citizen of India.

3. Election of the President

  • The President is elected indirectly and not by the people directly.
  • The Electoral College consists of elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States and Union Territories of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry, and elected members of the Lok Sabha and
  • The election uses proportional representation by the Single Transferable Vote System.

4. Nomination and Security Deposit

  • A presidential candidate must have the nomination proposed by at least 50 electors.
  • The nomination must also be seconded by another 50 electors.
  • The candidate must deposit security of ₹15,000.
