Causes of the Second World War

  • The Treaty of Versailles was very harsh on Germany. Germany lost territories, colonies, military strength, and had to pay heavy war indemnity. This created deep resentment in Germany.
  • Hitler rejected the Treaty of Versailles after coming to power in Germany. By 1934, he had all powers in his hands and became the Dictator of Germany.
  • Hitler expanded German power by annexing Rhineland, Austria, Sudetenland, and Czechoslovakia.
