Card 1Force

What is force?

Answer

Force is a push or pull acting on an object. It can make an object move from rest, change its speed, change its direction, or change its shape.

Card 2Effects of force

Why does a balloon change shape when pressed?

Answer

A force applied by the hands can change the shape of an object. The balloon changes shape because the force compresses it from both sides.

Card 3Newton's Second Law

A force of 15 N acts on a 3 kg object. What is the acceleration?

Answer

Use F = m a. So, a = F / m = 15 N / 3 kg = 5 m/s².

Card 4Momentum

A 5 kg body moves with a velocity of 10 m/s. What is its momentum?

Answer

Momentum is p = m v. So, p = 5 kg × 10 m/s = 50 kg m s⁻¹.

Card 5Momentum

Why does a loaded truck have more momentum than an empty truck moving with the same velocity?

Answer

Momentum depends on mass and velocity. For the same velocity, the truck with greater mass has greater momentum.

Card 6Newton's First Law

State Newton’s first law of motion.

Answer

Every body continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line until unless it is compelled by some unbalanced force to change that state.

Card 7Inertia

Why do passengers fall backward when a stationary bus starts suddenly?

Answer

The feet move with the bus, but the upper part of the body tries to remain at rest due to inertia. This causes a backward fall.

Card 8Inertia

What is inertia?

Answer

Inertia is the tendency of objects to stay at rest or to keep moving with the same velocity.
